simulation 001; video

[here, have a video. It's a smiling, pleasant-looking man in his mid thirties. He has the calm air of someone who has practiced saying this into the camera a few times.]

Hello, everyone. My name is Jarod DiCaprio, and I've recently taken post on board this ship along with a few new wardens. I'll begin serving on board staring just about---[he looks at his watch]---now. That's a good time to start, I think.

I look forward to meeting everyone, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Because my father was one.
empirical_data: (must you?)

I have never enjoyed confinement, myself. Though I believe in the long run an interdimensional ship can provide more than sufficient amounts of accessibility.

Only a month, but it has proven no more difficult than anything else that I have encountered.

Yes.

Now, heed my warning. There shall be no more.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
That must've been very traumatic for you.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
I've been threatened a lot today. It would be nice if there weren't any more.

Not too bright, are you?

Then we have an understanding...

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
For the Wardens, maybe, but I have a feeling the Inmates don't get quite the same privileges we do.

It's certainly going to be interesting.

Though the interdimensional aspects of the ship, how do they actualize on the reality plane? Theories about interdimensional subsections usually end with reality being flattened.

There was, at one time, an arbitrary swarm of locusts here. It was dreadful, and took me quite a long time... er, relatively, at any rate- to replace as many as was possible for me, and to restore others. Beyond that, I suppose my name is supported more by reputation than by credentials.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Consider me inexperienced.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
And what is your name?
empirical_data: (profile explaining)

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-08-04 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
The inmates do pose the possibility of becoming wardens after reformation. [He perks a little about the theories, though.]

I once encountered the negative effects of a time-gravity distortion that would manifest various versions of an environment at different points. The ramifications were destructive, and to alleviate the strain to the continuum I had to add antimatter to the system.

I theorize that when the ship actualizes, it has a similar "exhaust" system, so to speak. I work in engineering if you would like to examine the engines at some point. They are quite impressive.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! I would like that very much!

Can I take notes?

[identity profile] a-bit-put-upon.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor, of course. Though, before we fall into a Laurel and Hardy sketch, yes- that is my name. I've acquired a bit of a collection over the course of my travels, however, being that humans seem often dissatisfied with lack of specifics.
empirical_data: (smile)

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-08-04 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly, I have been. [He likes him. He's a little like Wesley without the annoyance.]

There is a wide variety of technology on board. You should have access to the CES, which seems to render artificial environments.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Jarod's quite excited about having someone to exchange notes with. Who doesn't want to cause him bodily harm. Not that he'd be doing much note-exchanging with those people]

What sort of artificial environments? Holographic projections, simulation displays, or actual, physical form?

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, I believe you.

But...Doctor who?

[identity profile] a-bit-put-upon.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, honestly. [But he chuckles!] Let's see... you may call me Dr. Von Wer, if you'd like.
empirical_data: (piqued)

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-08-04 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I am accustomed to holographic projections with magnetically generated force fields to give the illusion of solidity, but this seems to be actual form. It is likely generated from a matter reconstructor of a technology I am unfamiliar with.

[He tips his head doggishly at the screen.] You seem very knowledgeable, but your clothing suggests a pre-warp era period.

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen magnetically created force fields! It makes sense, though, the repelling forces give the impression of depth and substance. But it can't really replace reality. Food would feel the same, but it wouldn't taste the same, or be nutritional.

Pre-warp era. Is this like the disco era? I missed that one.
empirical_data: (confused)

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-08-04 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
No, it did not. Matter reconstructors are usually utilized to produce nutritional items. A base sample of carbon an various metals are reproportioned in preprogrammed patterns. We called them "replicators". They were excellent when in need of spare parts.

...I am unfamiliar with the "disco era". Did you learn more about it at a later point?

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's amazing. Did you use reconfigured nanotechnology to reproportion the carbon, or were genetic laser modification tools used?

A little bit. I discovered Barry Manilow and the Copa Cabana. Such a tragic love story.
empirical_data: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] empirical_data 2010-08-04 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
They utilize a high energy nano-grid laser called a "matter-energy conversion grid". Though admittedly it is the part that malfunctions most frequently.

"Copa Cabana?" What is it about?

[identity profile] i-run-you-chase.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
By gridding up the genetic coding of the carbon you can refigure it the easiest, mapping grid point to genetic point. If it's on a 2-dimensional scale, I can see the malfunction capabilities. Milk and soda have the same code if you look at them straight on. You'd need a three-dimensional database.

Oh! [he takes a bite of his pez and talks around the candy] It's this story of a dancer named Lola. She falls in love with this man named Tony at a nightclub, but they're pulled apart by a wealthy man named Rico. It's a late 1970's inspirational piece about unnecessary violence and the lives it destroys.
