I have an extensive surgical and emergency medical background, if you'd like me to write up a resume.

I studied at Oxford for a few years, but thought the medical field in Great Britain would be too difficult to utilize in an American field and transferred to John's Hopkins during my final round as an intern.

Are you British? I did my training at Royal Hope.

I was born in Pennsicola. My father was stationed just outside of London for most of my life.

So I hear you haven't had any formal medical training..?

[the smile fades. He's not sure how she worked it out, but he's got some guesses]

I am a doctor. I've been a heart surgeon, I've been an EMT, I've been a neurologist. Formal, no. Training, yes.

How does that work? [Martha is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt more than other people, because of the things she's seen.]

[considers carefully] You know how when you read a book, your brain automatically cuts out insignificant words? 'It', 'And', 'The'. Most of the time, your brain even cuts out the middle of words, filling it in with what you automatically recognize.

Me, I see everything. Remember everything.

And then you put that into practice?

You need a doctor from Pennsicola who studied at Oxford? I can be that. An EMT worker from New York? I can be that, too.

I want to help here, Dr. Jones. My---abilities aren't public knowledge. But I can be the person you need.

You can just be anyone you want to be?

Very useful around an infirmary.

Denise is a doctor in the infirmary too, you should know that.

[lightly] Not one for bedside manner, that one?

Not really, but she's a good doctor and she does care for her inmate.

Tell ya what, why don't you swing by the infirmary for a test run?

That sounds good. Want me to bring anything?

No. We have scanners and what not here.

There's a fair amount of emergency medicine involved. We have a high murder rate because it seem that people tend to forget that when you kill someone, they come back here.

There's that much violence on board?

What about surgical equipment? What sort of medical technology are you stocked with? Does anything update over time?

It varies from week to week. This week I think we've only had one murder. Some weeks we have mass causalities. It tends to be more around certain port times. After the last one about a third of the barge ended up here.

Our medical tech is as varied as the people who've worked here. We've got 51st century scanners and security from when McCoy was here, and we've got modern to me stuff. I'm from 2008.

I'm sure I'll pick up on it. It's what I'm good at, after all.
